Leave In The Kinks (LITK) was created by two natural ladies in their quest for healthy, never dull hair. We've pretty much accepted that our hair may never look like those in the magazines (unless they evolve considerably), but we love out respective afros (Poofy and Stefania) with a passion that borders on the obsessive. LITK chronicles out journeys from TWA to BAA and all the stages in between. We also throw in useful information (both hair related and not), style tutorials, gratuitous hair shots, articles, DIY, rants, Curlicious Divas, style mishaps and a whole lot of crazy, curly, kinky goodness. While the main focus of this blog is to celebrate naturally curly, kinky and afro hair, we welcome anyone who believes good hair is healthy and wishes to join us on our quest.


About Ms Fizzy

Currently in the UK, she brings her own unique perspective of the natural hair scene there, and is intent on starting a natural hair revolution. She has been known to freak total strangers out by begging to take pictures of their hair. Although she has been natural for just over a year, she is a huge know-it-all that should really stop rubbing her hair in everyone's face and focus on portraying the beauty of natural hair to the best of her ability. In her spare time, she likes to tease her siblings and laugh at people that try to convince her to relax her hair.


About Z

Z's the queer half-Nigerian, half-Malaysian owner of Poofy, living to change the world one self-esteem point at a time. She's addicted to Nutri-C and salt, and dances when she's got the time, or when the rhythm moves her ;) Z is quite possibly the laziest person when it comes to her hair, and she cannot cornrow to save her life. Maybe to save her life, but it would be horrible cornrows. Anyway, she likes coloring her hair and isn't fussy about the length as long as it can be tied back. Based in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, she spends her time perusing blogs, playing the weave identification game, and trying to resist the urge to experiment with her hair. Again.

About Oghenastefanichukwu

Oghenastefanichukwu (also known as Stef) was the younger of the two afros but since Z murdered Poofy and phoenixed her, Stef is now the older and more badass afro. She is as yet not very temperamental and fairly easy to manage. She, however, loves to play disappearing tricks with hair products that are put in her, thereby enabling Miss Fizzy's product junkiesm. She likes potions that smell like food and loves to be played in. She also likes the attention she gets from total strangers when she is all out in her glory. Her dream is to block people's view and be so awesome that when people talk to Fizzy, their eyes will stray up to her afro and not down to her tits as usual. And also to defy humidity, gels, conditioners...in fact, anything that tries to tame her.


About Poofy

Poofy will be reaching her 3 yr birthday in August, and it's been quite a trip for her. She's very resilient, having survived several color treatments while remaining fly as always. She has also survived Z's bad habit of not wrapping her or moisturizing her daily, which makes her quite gangsta. Poofy is extremely picky and expresses anger through dry scalp and itchiness. Hence, Poofy does not like braids or cornrows, or any styles that restrict her, really. Her favorite style is a ponytail, and she likes to be played with, head rubs included. Poofy recently underwent a second big chop and is rather confused as to why her texture is markedly different from the first time :S Her hobbies include picking up things like she's Velcro, obscuring friends and family in photographs and getting chewed on by alpacas.
