Yesterday, I decided to get off my ass and give her some long-awaited treatments. She was calling for it. First of all, I have a tendency to dry scalp and dandruff if I don't shampoo often. Sometimes I wish I could go no-poo, but the facts are that I must use an anti-dandruff shampoo like 4 times a week, otherwise shit gets ugly. If anyone knows an anti-dandruff alternative (plain ACV ain't gonna cut it), do let me know. All this shampooing means I should be deep-conditioning her like once or twice a week, really.
Anyway, I've also had a bottle of Bragg's Liquid Aminos sitting around, ever since I tried the Cherry Lola treatment, which Poofy hated, by the way. So I said, hey, why not make up something and use it anyway. Poofy could do with a protein treatment. I mixed the liquid aminos with some coconut milk and a little oil, then whipped it all together.
I washed Poofy with the anti-dandruff shampoo, rinsed it out and saturated her with the protein treatment, then slapped a shower cap on. I left it on for 5-10 minutes, while I mixed up the deep conditioner- Organix and VO5 conditioner, coconut milk, herbal oil, and baking soda. After I rinsed out the protein, Poofy had curled up some and felt a little brittle, which I expected. I put in the deep conditioner, shower capped, and left it in for 45 minutes.
When I took off the cap, Poofy had curled up like no man's business!
Poor baby, I need to be doing this more often. I rinsed it out under cold water and took some pictures of the result before applying my shea butter + coconut oil moisturizer.
New resolution- do this every week!
Does anyone have a hair recipe involving liquid aminos? I'd love to try one out.

She looks so happy!
OMG for the last couple weeks Ive been searching for a protein conditioner to use. I used aphogee about 12 years ago in hs and my hair was so brittle and broke all off so I am hesitant to use anything harsh. Ive been looking at the aubrey organics GPB conditioner but am still scared to use anything harsh because I dont think I can handle too much protein. Youve jsut convinced me to do something natural, Im going to gnc now to get some braggs!
wow really curly, do you think this will work on longer hair?
For dandruff/dry scalp issues in the past i have used a product called "Top Brass." It is a cream that comes in a blue tube. You can find it at most beauty supply stores. The active ingredient is pyrithione zinc.
I used the Cherry Lola treatment once and my hair HATED it. Hard, brittle, the works. I use baking soda and yogurt all the time, so I knew it had to be the braggs. I now use the Braggs when I cook! Use it in place of soy sauce. It's delicious and healthy.
As for a light protein, I use AO GBP all the time and my hair loves it.
Hi Z. I'm newly natural and love you and Miss Fizz's blog. I have been addicted to it all week. Anyway, I wanted to share a great product i found for fighting dandruff and dry scalp which i'm prone to as well. Its not cheap but I was shocked that nothing else ever worked and it worked after the first time I used it. Its called Kerastase Anti-dandruff fluide purifiant. Its a little bottle but you just put it directly on your scalp, I rub it in a bit and put on a cap for a bit, its a leave-in and it doesn't do anything i don't like to my natural hair like make it look dry or feel build-up-y. Let me know if it works for you.
Have you tried scalp scrubs?

First I really love your hair from your barber shop cuts to now it has always been beautiful.... I would suggest that you try a natural gentle shampoo for your weekly poos its called Shea Moisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo the ingredients are amazing plus it has salicylic acid which will exfoliate those dead skin cells below the epidermis and tea tree oil which fights antibacterial its a more natural and gentle form of a dandruff shampoo....You can find it at target for 9.99 or online as well....another plus is a little goes a long way and it lasts a while I bought a bottle back in october and I use it weekly as well as my boyfriend who washes at least 2xs/wk....Let Me know how it goes
