two strand twists
1. Where are you from and what do you do?
4. Was there any opposition?
10. Do you have a goal length that you’re aspiring to?
11. What treatments have you tried, colours etc.?
13. Anything else you'd like to add?
Student at Macquarie Uni Australia, from Trinidad &Tobago
2. How long have you been natural?
All my life, literally! ;)
Well, I guess it's been topsy turvy, but we (my hair and I) were always in it together, kinda like a marriage lol. As much as I couldn't stand my hair at times, I knew I wouldn't do anything serious to ruin our relationship! Lets just say I loved my hair even when I didn't love my hair. I do think my determination to stay natural was heavily influenced by the Rastafarian culture, I believed my natural hair was a part of my natural beauty, I wanted to be a 'natural black' because it was, by my understanding beautiful.
4. Was there any opposition?
I can't say there was any opposition to my decision to stay natural, it was commonplace when I was in the US to have people ask me if I had ever done anything to my hair, or if I ever will, the response was always the same- no and naaaah. I did however always say that I would one day, when the time was right, turn dread (sport dreadlocks), then when I was older 'fly my dread' (Trini slang for cut my dreadlocks) and sport a short cut.(all this in this exact order) But I was always very against putting chemicals in it (not that anything's wrong with that, I just felt that it wasn't for me.)
5. How about support?
Yea generally. I'll admit right now that I also always knew that if I chose any other route with my hair, well, let's just say it would have been short lived, I'm not exactly the girl that wants to spend time with her hair either, I'm tremendously bad with my natural hair I can't imagine being different with relaxed or straightened hair and I'd imagine that to be a hair death sentence! My mother knew this so she supported my natural hair, my dad always encouraged me to keep it natural too.

6. Have you ever considered relaxing your hair?
No, can't say I have seriously considered it before. I remember watching my mom at the salon doing her hair, it seemed like a long process... wasn't interested in burning my scalp either.
7. How has being natural changed your outlook on life?
Ummm, not sure how to respond to this one, I can't say it has changed any perception I have of life, I've always thought and felt that a person should strive to be the best version of him/herself and for me that version could not be separated from my hair in it's natural state. I did recognize that more and more females were keeping their hair natural, and I loved seeing that. I guess I felt like, they were also seeing the beauty of their natural selves. But I do think that the outer body only contributes minimally to a truly beautiful person.
8. What’s a typical hair day like for you? What are your go to styles?
It used to be twists, bun and cornrows (this ensured I spent very little time on my hair) moisturizer and out the door. Now that I've cut it I wash, moisturize and go (sounds longer but it's way shorter and so much fun!)
9. What are 3 products you can’t live without?
Pantene shampoo, conditioner and their moisturizer.
10. Do you have a goal length that you’re aspiring to?
Absolutely not, I've carried a full, long head of hair all my life and I've now cut it all off, and I love it, there might be no going back for me, but we'll see. (Ed- Tricia messaged me after catching up with the blog after a while, saying: "You gave ladies gave me the push I needed to do something I've been wanting to for more than a year. Thanks lovelies!"and this lovely cut was the result. You're welcome!)
the new cut!
11. What treatments have you tried, colours etc.?
Hot oil treatments! eeepp, is that what you mean, cuz either way, that's my go-to hair repair solution (sad I know).
12. Have you got any advice for prospective naturals?
Go for it, but do it for the right reason. Right reasons in book = makes you feel fierce, fabulous and full of life!
13. Anything else you'd like to add?
flat ironed/curl set

awesome hair!
WOW....your hair is absolutely fabulous. My hair inspiration!
Umm, her long hair is GORGEOUS. But... that short cut is FIERCE!!! She looks like a MODEL. There is just something about short natural hair that highlights your face so much and she is GLOWING. I love the cut. I want my hair to grow out but I realize after seeing this post that I am going to MISS IT . Very lovely!
omg, it's so weird to see that other people who I've never met, like my hair! LOL, my mom practically freaked out when I cut it and still is freaking out at random! lol, thanks for the compliments, they waw'd me! I told my boo, 'babe, look pple like my hair!' lol ok, just saying thanks :)
I know what you mean about the short cut and people's reactions. Well I also have to add that I love your long hair and also love your short hair. Either way you have style and class in your look. Keep it up!
I just wanted to add that I love your hair long and short! You do look like a model!
Also, it's helpful to see how beautiful your hair was/is without having to go through a whole rigmarole -er, complicated regimen, lol- to achieve it. Low-maintenance naturals = way to go for me.
It's me again - I see a shot of you in the snow. Did you alter your regimen at all to counteract the drying effects of the cold air?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Thank you, to be honest, the pics of me in the snow, I was actually in Germany visiting a friend, and we were up early and out on the road so, and I generally didn't have much hair time, at that time my extra best friend was my pantene moisturizer, my hair is extra thick and so I'd put enough in my hand, and work it from the scalp to the ends and go! the end... doesn't sound like much but that's what my hair required of me at that time. Worked for me and my hair, we're both low maintenance! Hope that helped!
Thank you. :o)
