I'm Maureen and a natural no-poo girl, I never had a relaxer. Five years ago I started taking the pill, since then my hair started thinning and my hairline has receded. I stopped two months ago because I was suffering from mood swings and didn't feel like my former, care-free self. I had noticed my hair changing over the years, just dismissed it to improper handling (for the record: I treat my hair like a newborn baby). I never thought the pill could have this side effect, but my doctor confirmed it. (Thanks for the heads-up doc)
I'm desperate to have my old hair back, it was so thick and long.. F*cking pill! (Wow, excuse my French :P) It's just so frustrating to see people who are doing all kinds of bad things to their hair with thicker edges than me, and I'm using all the right products (Amla, ACV sheabutter, you name it).
I'm trying to regrow everything now, I take both biotin and MSM, drink lots of water, wash, moisturize and deep-condition regularly. What more can I do?!

Never been on the pill but I know it takes a while for the hormones to leave your system so if you were going off the pill in order to get pregnant, it would be some time before you would be able to conceive. I say give your body some time to detox from the hormones and keep up with treating your hair well.
some info about getting off the pill: http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/2964.html
I'm on the pill (have been for years) and I haven't noticed any negative effect on my hair. However, not all bc pills are the same. It may mean you just need to find the one that's right for you and does not result in these side effects (but then your doctor should know more about this than I do...). As the previous commenter said, even if you do stay off the pill it will take time for your body to adjust.
I was taken off of the pill in November. I had been on it for 4 years. Almost out of nowhere I started having extreme shedding! My edges are still thin, but starting to come back. I take a multivitamin (not MSM, but it does have a little Biotin in it), water, dc weekly. I also started applying castor oil to my scalp and I definitely think it helps
Biotin and MSM should definitely help your hair to thicken-up and grow back. When I was taking MSM and Biotin (drink lots of water b/c Biotin can break you out) my hair grew like crazy!
I was on Zovia for 3-4 years, and toward the end, my hair fell out in clumps. In the end, I just BC'd and started over. I have to admit, I was lazy w/ my hair and I had been wanting to cut off my permed hair for a while.
I'm afraid that I cannot add anything to your situation. =/ The advice about seems sound.
It could be the level of hormones that are in the particular pill she was prescribed. I have to take a low-dose bc. I went on a high-dose once and had a nervous breakdown. She should consult with her doctor.
I have been on bc since I was 13 (now 28), even before being sexually active and have tried many times to get off but due to heavy bleeding, vomiting and unbearable cramps, I am a slave to the pill. It has not, however had any negative effects on my hair.
I am sooo glad I'm not the only one that HAS to take birth control not because of being sexually active. I've been on the pill since high school. And I too had extreme cramps, body aches, vomiting, can't eat anything, and was pretty much confined to bed the first 3 days of my period. But I don't think I've
Thanks for the comments guys! I too went on the pill because of the cramps and heavy bleedings but never had bad mood swings, those started afterwards. Now my body feels like it's messed up, hormonally speaking. I've been having more hair problems now than when I was still drowning my hair in Pink Oil Moisturizer and washing with Head & Shoulders. Don't want to get back on the pill anymore, last time I stopped my face ended up covered in acne (it took two years to clear up). I'll have to do some soul-searching and let my body heal in the mean time.
